Grey start, but warm sunshine breaks through this afternoon
A cloudy start across North West England, with low cloud thickest over Cumbria where a few spots of drizzly rain are possible on the higher fells. The cloud slowly lifts through the day, with the best of the afternoon sunshine across Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
It will feel warm for September where the sun comes out, with highs of 21C to 23C in the south of the region and 18C to 21C further north and near coasts. Winds stay light, with gusts mostly under 15 mph, a touch stronger on exposed Cumbrian coasts.
Tonight is mostly dry with variable cloud and some clear spells, and lows of 8C to 11C. Thicker cloud and outbreaks of heavy rain arrive across Cumbria towards dawn, ahead of a wetter Wednesday.
