Wet and windy today, turning dry and chilly tonight
Heavy rain and strong winds sweep across North West England this morning, with the wettest conditions over Cumbria and Lancashire. Coastal gales are possible, with gusts of 45 to 55 mph on exposed Irish Sea coasts and 30 to 45 mph inland. Despite the rain it stays mild, with highs of 17C to 19C.
The rain turns lighter and more showery through the afternoon, clearing away completely this evening as winds quickly ease.
Tonight becomes dry and chilly with long clear spells. Temperatures fall to 3C to 6C in towns, with a grass frost possible in rural spots, ahead of a much brighter and calmer Monday.
